Our climate in the Shetland Islands, at 60°North, is new and unique to Scotch Whisky. We’re almost 500 miles north of Islay and 250 miles north of Speyside, regions famous for their abundance of distilleries. So we’re literally defining a new region for Scotch, but the most exciting aspect is that our more predictable, less variable, cooler climate is absolutely perfect for Whisky maturation. We’re intent on producing an extraordinary whisky enhanced by the unique qualities of our location.

Hey, It’s the Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival this week. Our shop will be open Monday to Saturday 10-5… after all foot-tappin’, dancing and playing accordions and fiddles is thirsty work.

Whilst the Distillery is being assembled behind locked doors we have opened the gift shop on Lerwick’s Market Street. We’re super busy, so this week opening Thursday and Saturday 10-5, but if you’re visiting the Islands on other days send us a message and we might be able to open for you.
Thanks to all those who’ve already visited. It’s been a great start.

Sneak Preview! For Islanders and lucky visitors we’ve opened the shop! Not an official launch, but we’ve got some exciting stuff on the shelves. Mainly our inaugural Whisky release called ‘NØRN’… this is the first of an edition of 3 which we will officially launch together soon. In the meantime we have limited nos. Of ‘NØRN 8 yr old Atlantic Edition’ available ONLY from the shop. FYI. This is our Master Distiller, the legendary Ian Millar’s, first Shetland blended creation. It’s no ordinary Blended Whisky. Everything Ian is crafting at Lerwick Distillery is ‘extraordinary’, premium quality and Shetland inspired. Exciting times!

The Haad Still Fellowship is not simply a ‘bottl

The Haad Still Fellowship is not simply a ‘bottle club’, where you receive occasional samples. Perhaps a similar principle, but on a completely different level.

Our Master Distiller, the legendary Ian Millar will take you along on the journey from the inception, filling the ‘origin’ casks at Lerwick Distillery to then sampling through the first eight years what will ultimately become the first ever Shetland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
At milestone intervals we’ll send out cask samples to the Fellowship, who’ll take part in tastings, in person or online… Ian is excited to have this forum, a fellowship of enthusiasts and connoisseurs who will together with him form this entirely unique new Scotch!
Take part in the crafting of liquid gold.
There will never be another first like this.

Shetland is an extraordinary source of water—naturally crisp, always cool, and pure. Rare Paleozoic Metamorphic Rock springs and windswept unsheltered lochs provide the highest-quality water in terms of purity and pH level. We’ll be sourcing from several secret springs, where there is no agriculture and simply nothing but nature and the elements. We affectionately call these our ‘Springs of Valhalla’.
