Our Master Distiller, Ian Millar, has once again crafted an exceptional blended Scotch whisky in honour of Shetland’s legendary Festival of Fire - a celebration of the islands’ untamed Viking heritage.

The Up Helly Aa 2026 Edition is limited to just 2,000 bottles worldwide and released once only. Following the rapid sell-out of the 2025 edition, this year’s release is aimed squarely at collectors and discerning enthusiasts. A meticulously balanced marriage of premium malt and grain Scotch whiskies, it is matured for a minimum of eight years in select American and European oak, before being overwintered in Shetland in rich Sherry casks, imparting remarkable depth, richness, and character.

Blended to a rare and indulgent 50/50 malt-to-grain ratio and bottled at Viking-strength 50% ABV, this non-chill filtered, small-batch expression is a fitting tribute to its smouldering inspiration.

Master Distiller's notes

"We’ve been extremely indulgent with this one-off special release for Up Helly Aa, a blend from spectacular casks. We bottled it at ‘Viking Strength’, 50%, though a wee bit o' Shetland water opens up the flavours and aromas even further, revealing new layers of complexity and delight."

Ian Millar, Master Distiller

Nose

A wave of sweet spice from European oak Sherry casks leads, with a warm base of brown sugar and vanilla, layered with rich raisins and dried fruit.

Palate

A big sweet hit front of mouth, dark fruity notes from the Sherry casks. Rich, rounded and palatable at 50%, whilst water will reveal more.

Finish

Long and warming, with the dark fruit notes and sherry influence lingering. A hint of spice returns, leaving a tingle on the tongue.
