From Shetland to the World Stage

Scotland Is Going to the World Cup. Lerwick Distillery Is Having One of Its Own.

There are moments when a nation dares to dream. When hope becomes belief, and belief becomes reality.

This year, Scotland has done just that by securing its place on football's biggest stage, the FIFA World Cup. And while the Tartan Army prepares its passports and perfects its renditions of "Yes Sir, I Can Boogie", something equally remarkable has been happening 363 miles north of Hampden, in Shetland. Lerwick Distillery has quietly been putting in a World Cup performance of its own.

Over the past year, the distillery has exceeded last year's growth across every key area of the business, recording record sales, expanding its customer base, increasing visitor numbers, strengthening its international reach, and continuing to build momentum behind its award-winning spirits and whisky programme.

While Scotland's footballers have been finding the back of the net, the team at Lerwick Distillery has been finding growth wherever they look.

"There's definitely something in the air," said Martin Watt, Founder, Lerwick Distillery. "Scotland is heading to the World Cup and we've managed to beat last year's performance across the board. We're not saying the two are connected, but nobody has ever seen our sales figures and Scotland's qualifying campaign in the same room together."

Founded in the heart of Shetland, Lerwick Distillery has built its reputation by embracing the resilience, creativity and determination that have defined island communities for generations. Those same qualities are now driving the business into its most successful period yet.

The growth reflects increasing demand for authentic premium spirits with a genuine sense of place. Consumers are increasingly seeking products with provenance, heritage and story, qualities that Shetland has in abundance.

For the team at Lerwick, the achievement is about more than numbers. It represents local jobs, local pride, growing tourism, expanding exports and the opportunity to showcase Shetland to the world. Much like Scotland's football team, the distillery is proving that you don't need to be the biggest player on the pitch to make an impact.

As World Cup fever begins to sweep across the country, Lerwick Distillery is raising a glass to Scotland's success and to the communities, businesses and individuals who continue to punch above their weight on the global stage.

After all, whether it's football or whisky, Scots have always had a habit of surprising people.

And if the past year has taught us anything, it's that when Scotland believes, extraordinary things can happen.

Slàinte Scotland. See you at the World Cup.
